Why I Wrote This BookThe ABC of Pet Grooming is more than a book — it is a lifetime of dedication to animals, brought together in one place.Having groomed over 17,000 dogs and trained more than 700 students, I saw a clear gap in the industry: a lack of structured, accurate, and practical knowledge. I wanted to change that.This book is for every professional groomer who wants to understand not just how to groom, but why each decision matters — for the animal's health, comfort, safety, and individual needs. It is equally for every pet owner who deserves to know how and why their pet should be cared for in a particular way. Grooming is never random; every procedure has a purpose.This work also carries the wisdom of my family. My mother brings over 45 years of experience with animals, including her expertise as a judge and her deep understanding of animal structure and care. My sister contributes her knowledge in pet boarding and transportation — adding another essential dimension to responsible pet care.Together, we have created a comprehensive guide that goes beyond grooming alone.The ABC of Pet Grooming is my life's work — so that the next generation learns not only how to groom, but why it matters. Funky Furz was born from a simple belief: when you truly understand pets, you understand that every coat, every skin type, and every grooming requirement is different. Established in 2010, Funky Furz grew from years of professional, hands-on experience in pet grooming.

The brand was founded by Radhiya Hemchandra, Master Groomer and Founder of Fuzzy Wuzzy, India's leading professional pet grooming school. Having grown up surrounded by pets and animals, Radhiya's connection with them began long before her professional journey. Over the years, that passion developed into extensive practical experience working with thousands of pets, gaining an in-depth understanding of different breeds, coats, skin types, temperaments, and grooming requirements.

For Radhiya, grooming was never simply about making a pet look beautiful. It was about understanding the coat, the skin beneath it, and the individual needs of each pet. It was about knowing the right products, the right tools, and the right techniques to create a better grooming experience. That philosophy became the foundation of Funky Furz.

The goal was never simply to create another product. It was to create and curate products that groomers could understand, trust, and use with confidence, while making professional-quality pet care more accessible to pet parents.

MY JOURNEY

My journey with pets began long before Funky Furz was ever an idea. I grew up surrounded by animals, and over the years, that love developed into a lifelong passion, a profession and a deep commitment to understanding pets—not simply how they look, but how they communicate, move, feel and respond to their environment and care.

Today, I bring together my experience as a Master Groomer, International World Representative for Pet Grooming, Pet Psychologist, Canine Communicator and Pet Physiotherapist, along with my years of hands-on experience working with thousands of pets.

As the Founder of Fuzzy Wuzzy, India's leading professional pet grooming school, I have spent years working directly with pets and educating professional groomers and entrepreneurs. This experience has given me the opportunity to observe an enormous variety of breeds, coats, skin types, temperaments, communication patterns and individual grooming requirements. And through every pet, I continued to learn.

HOW FUNKY FURZ WAS BORN

In 2010, I created Funky Furz as a product-specific category born directly from my professional grooming experience. The idea was simple: if I was going to recommend a product for a pet, I wanted to understand exactly what that product did, why it worked and whether it genuinely benefited the pet.

I never wanted Funky Furz to be simply another collection of products on a shelf. I wanted it to be built from experience first.

Years of professional grooming gave me the opportunity to research, test, use and evaluate products in real grooming environments. I experienced firsthand how different products interacted with different coats and skin types, how tools performed during actual grooming, and how small differences in product quality could significantly change the grooming experience.

My knowledge of canine communication, psychology and physiotherapy also gave me another perspective. A grooming session is not just about the coat. It involves the pet's comfort, movement, communication, temperament, skin, coat and overall experience. Understanding the pet as a whole became an important part of how I approached product selection and development.

FROM EXPERIENCE TO CREATION

Funky Furz grew from years of observation, research, experimentation and hands-on experience. I wanted to bring together products that could help professional groomers work with greater confidence while also helping pet parents understand and care for their pets better.

Good grooming begins with understanding the skin beneath the coat, the condition and texture of the coat, the breed, the pet's communication, its comfort and movement, and its individual needs.

But most importantly, understanding the pet matters.

That philosophy is at the heart of Funky Furz. Everything I have learned through years of working with pets, teaching groomers, studying communication and movement, and experiencing the realities of professional grooming has shaped the way I approach this brand.
